REVIEW: Taco Bell’s Naked Chicken Chalupa

Hola, gang!

What’s all the hubbub, bub?  According to Taco Bell, it’s all about their new, limited time Naked Chicken Chalupa.

naked chicken chalupa

This is something that Taco Bell started promoting and creating quite the commotion about an easy month before it’s official public release.  They had all the bloggers and news outlets abuzz with anticipation.  Essentially, to me, it seems liked Taco Bell’s answer to the KFC Double-Down and everyone else’s chicken sandwich.  So, what they did is they created a chalupa shell from a piece of fried chicken and then filled it with lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, and a creamy avocado ranch sauce.  So, in typical form, I set out on the launch date (I’m a regular guy, just like all of you) to give it a shot.  Here is the video:

There is my take, but I want to know your thoughts.  Have you tried the Naked Chicken Chalupa from Taco Bell yet?  What did you think?  Leave it in the comments and tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Please share this video with your friends and thanks so much for your support.

REVIEW: Taco Bell Spicy Sweet Double Stacked Taco

Hi, gang!

Recently, Taco Bell introduced 3 varieties of their new, limited-time Double Stacked Tacos.  Each one boasts a contrast of flavors within the double shells.  They offer a Nacho Crunch, a Spicy Sweet, and a Cool Habanero.  I’m slightly confused though.  Their in-house menu has the Cool Habanero option, but it’s nowhere to be found on their web site.  Not that I really care about the Habanero one.  Too hot for me!  Rather, they have a Cool Ranch (not a contrast at all really).  I’m scratching my head on this one.

One of the shining stars of any of these is that each one of them will only cost you a single buck!  That’s really good, for something with as much stuff as they each have in them.  Not sure how long the Taco Double Stacked Tacos will be around, but if you’re looking to try any or all of them, I suggest you do it right away.  Lately, limited-time items at Taco Bell have not been hanging around for too long.  I bat an eye and they’re gone.

So, with the introduction out of the way, here is my food review of the Taco Bell Spicy Sweet Double Stacked Taco:

So, there you go.  Go out and give them a try and let me know your opinion in the comments.

Taco Bell Bacon Club Chalupa Fail

I Reviewed Taco Bell’s Bacon Club Chalupa…Wait. No I Didn’t.

Taco Bell's Bacon Club ChalupaHola, Gang!

I was out and about today and my wife wanted something from Taco Bell for lunch. Being the freaking awesome husband I am, I obliged.

I thought that as long as we were there, I’d take advantage of the time and review their new Bacon Club Chalupa. “Crispy bacon over juicy, grilled chicken in a chewy chalupa shell with avocado sauce, crispy lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and three cheese blend.” At least, that is what the fluff on the web site stated.

We swung into the drive-thru and there it was on the menu, in all it’s glory:

BACON CLUB CHALUPA – $2.69.  Sounds sweet!

After ordering the item and a couple of their Freezes (it was Happy Hour where we could pick them up for $1 a piece), I noticed that the order screen read that the Bacon Club Chalupa was $3.29. That was curious.

“Is there anything else I can get you?” asked the drive-thru dude.

“Isn’t the Bacon Club Chalupa $2.69?” I inquired.

“Well, the menu is wrong. It’s really $3.29.”

“Can you make it $2.69?”

“No, we can’t.”

Really?  When you venture into a store and an item is listed at a certain price, the store must give it to you at that price whether it rings up right or wrong. That’s been the way it’s been since I was a wee lad. Anything else is just wrong. If you went to a mall and found a shirt marked at a certain price, you’d expect to get it at that price and not have them jack it up on you once you brought it up the register. It’s pretty basic and has been the way of consumerism forever.

Obviously, this particular Taco Bell doesn’t know what we know. The bottom line is we changed the order and I ended up pretty peeved.

So, I’m sorry about the review that never was, but it’s the principal of the whole thing. As far as I’m concerned, it was a total lack of good customer service not to mention integrity on their part.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I’ll have three new reviews coming this next week!

New Camera Glasses and Shaquille O’Neal Soda Disaster!

This last week was fairly eventful:

I received my new pair of Pivothead Kudu Camera Glasses and had a short bit of time to play with them. So far, so good! I’m impressed with the quality they are producing over the iVUE glasses. I’ll have some immersion-type of food reviews coming up for you.

My last review was the Shaquille O’Neal-inspired Soda Shaq Vanilla Cream Soda. I had a few not-so-kind words to say about it. I’ve put the video below if you want to check it out:

I reviewed a couple new menu items from Taco Bell that I think you’ll enjoy.

Finally, with my camera glasses in hand, I’m planning to begin shooting a brand new video series, taking a cue from the Eating The Dollar Stores series that so many of you like so much. I think you’ll like this, too, so stay tuned.

That’s all for today; short and sweet!

Have a FREAKING AWESOME DAY and I’ll see you on the Old Nerd Reviews YouTube channel. 😉

New Phone Case, Taco Bell Rolled Chicken Taco Review

As a life-long penny-pincher, I’m someone who take really good care of the things that I buy.

If I’m going to invest my hard-earn cash, I want things lasting as long as they can.  If they break, it won’t be because of me! 😉

I just received the new protective case for my Moto G Verizon Pre-Paid cell phone in the mail today. It’s pretty cool!  I wanted to share it with you as an exclusive video to Old Nerd

If you’re in need of a case for your own Moto G phone, here’s where I got mine for that really groovy price!

BTW, if you missed yesterday’s food review, here it is.  I decided that I needed to join the crowd and review the new Taco Bell Rolled Chicken Tacos:

There you go, gang!!  Thanks for visiting and I’ll talk with you again real soon!!!

Fast Food Order Frustration

As an old nerd, I tend to rant and rave.  After living as many years as I have, I tend not to care too much about what I say.  You can expect that as well as you age (maybe you do now!).  Poor service at a restaurant is a big frustration to me; especially when there is really very little excuse for it.

I have been to the Taco Bell at 11717 NE 65th Avenue in Vancouver, WA many times over.  Either I’m ordering dinner for myself and my wife or I’m grabbing something for a review.  Up until recently, the orders have been straight off the menu and everything has been fine.  A week ago, I tried the Triple Layer Nachos off their Dollar Cravings menu.Taco Bell Triple Layer Nachos

I love nachos and sometimes I just like to keep it simple.  This particular item consists of chips, nacho cheese, refried beans, and a tangy red sauce.  I found that the red sauce is way too hot for me, so after the first time of setting my mouth aflame, I began asking them to leave the red sauce off.

For one reason or another, this seems to be too tall an order for the people who work there.  I don’t understand why.  It’s a simple single item and leave one thing off.  I’ve ordered this when they weren’t even busy to give you a better grasp of my gripe.

They have messed this up twice now.  The first time, I had the common sense to check my order before I left and had them fix the problem right away.  This last time, I ended up driving all the way home, only to find a batch of red sauce squarely in the middle of the chips and cheese.

This is not complicated and, as I consumer, I believe that we all should be getting what we pay for.  In this case, less than what we pay for.  Leave something off!

One the positive side, they were always apologetic and willing to fix my order right away.  I just need them to get this one, single thing correct and all will be right with the world.

Have you had experiences like this before?  I’m sure I’m far and away from the only one.  Tell me your story in the comments before.
