I Reviewed Taco Bell’s Bacon Club Chalupa…Wait. No I Didn’t.

I was out and about today and my wife wanted something from Taco Bell for lunch. Being the freaking awesome husband I am, I obliged.

I thought that as long as we were there, I’d take advantage of the time and review their new Bacon Club Chalupa. “Crispy bacon over juicy, grilled chicken in a chewy chalupa shell with avocado sauce, crispy lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and three cheese blend.” At least, that is what the fluff on the web site stated.

We swung into the drive-thru and there it was on the menu, in all it’s glory:

BACON CLUB CHALUPA – $2.69.  Sounds sweet!

After ordering the item and a couple of their Freezes (it was Happy Hour where we could pick them up for $1 a piece), I noticed that the order screen read that the Bacon Club Chalupa was $3.29. That was curious.

“Is there anything else I can get you?” asked the drive-thru dude.

“Isn’t the Bacon Club Chalupa $2.69?” I inquired.

“Well, the menu is wrong. It’s really $3.29.”

“Can you make it $2.69?”

“No, we can’t.”

Really?  When you venture into a store and an item is listed at a certain price, the store must give it to you at that price whether it rings up right or wrong. That’s been the way it’s been since I was a wee lad. Anything else is just wrong. If you went to a mall and found a shirt marked at a certain price, you’d expect to get it at that price and not have them jack it up on you once you brought it up the register. It’s pretty basic and has been the way of consumerism forever.

Obviously, this particular Taco Bell doesn’t know what we know. The bottom line is we changed the order and I ended up pretty peeved.

So, I’m sorry about the review that never was, but it’s the principal of the whole thing. As far as I’m concerned, it was a total lack of good customer service not to mention integrity on their part.
